Clue No.5: Pick a car Any Car/ Clue No.6: Redesign the Car

This is my original line drawing of the 1973 Firebird. As I mentioned in my previous post this is where I got the idea to angle all of the curves on the body and to get rid of the separation bar on the grill of the car. At the last minute i also replaced the screaming chicken with flames as you saw before.

Clue No.7: More Style

For this clue we were to draw a 2 point perspective of a car of our choice, the n change it in any way we saw fit. I chose a 1973 Firebird as my car of choice. I removed the panes in the windows to create one solid piece, and removed the bar separating the front grill. I also put angles where there were curves on the body in addition to a hot paint job... no pun intended :)

Clue No. 2: Processing Patterns

For this assignment we are experimenting with designing from patterns. As a first step we were to derive a minimum of 25 patterns from an object of our choosing. I chose my favorite tee shirt. It was from these that we were to choose three favorites. after choosing my favorite moments I began simplifying, exaggerating, rotating, and combining parts from my favorite moments in order to create shapes and patterns that I would use in the next clue.

Clue No. 3: Weaving it Together

incorporating your patterns into your space is the third step of designing from patterns. We were to incorporate three of our patterns that we made into our space. The three patterns that I used can be found in the wings of my wing-backed chair (butterfly wings), and the internal structure of my book case (veins inside a butterfly wing) and the overhead lamp comes from the Queen Ann's Lace pattern. you will also see a floral pattern in the fabric of the chair in the following post.

Clue No. 4: Changing the Colors

This is the fourth step of the process of designing from patterns. Experimenting with color. =D For this part of the assignment we were to add color to our black line drawings of our small reading areas using no more than four colors.

Clue No. 1:Story Telling in Perspective: part two

One of my favorite things to draw are trees. Ever since I was little I have always enjoyed the complex twists and turns of the branches and roots. I also find these much easier to draw from imagination rather than real life. so you might say I have a love/hate relationship with trees... This drawing was done on the front part of the EUC. My favorite place to catch a breath of fresh air and some much needed vitamin D.

Clue Number 1:Story Telling in Perspective

The first place on campus that has meaning to me is Tate ST. Coffee House. Tate Street Coffee holds a special place in my heart because deep down inside I am a coffee house junkie! The smell of fresh roasted coffee, the energetic buzz of activity, and especially the soft jazz playing over the sound system... I know, it's hard to believe that a freshman in college has a thing for jazz.. right? I especially like it when it is played live. which they do every weekend here. And get this, I also thoroughly enjoy classical :) My taste in music is greatly influenced by the years I spent utterly submerged in the music programs of my middle and high schools. Playing music was really enjoyable for me, but like many things I found it even more enjoyable when done with others. Also, as an art student, my extreme lack of a social life doesn't allow for these kind of activities, so whenever i can I make my way down to Tate Street Coffee House and reminisce on all the fond memories I have of my musical days. I also enjoy imagining all the fond memories I will have with my current and longest lasting passion... Art!

PS Sorry to the girl on the right! You kept moving making it hard for me to accurately capture the angle of your arm ♥

Monticello and Fallingwater Sketches

IARC goes to Maryland!! and Virginia. Recently I and the rest of the first year class took a 2 day trip to Monticello (project and residence of Thomas Jefferson), and Fallingwater ( one of Frank Lloyd Wright's crowning achievements). While we were there we of course had to do some sketching; being the art students we are :) These are the two that I did. I would have to say that Fallingwater was my favorite of the two

MHRA Diagrams

For part of the group project we are working on, each member had to create 1 of 5 diagrams of our assigned building (the MHRA). The five types are as follows: circulation, site diagram, public/private,zones/personal space, and occupational diagrams. I chose to do the site diagram for our building. Originally I tried to create the diagram by simply walking around the area, but soon found that this would be nearly impossible without some assistance. Thank you Bing maps for having an aerial view! :)

Thumbnail Perspectives

For this particular assignment, in groups, we were to choose our 5 best thumbnails and create larger perspectives from them. When drawing each of these perspectives we were to try and imitate the style of another artist's work we found appealing. The challenge behind this was to choose artists that had a style different from our own. Using urbansketchers.com , I chose works done by Paul Heaston, Yong Hwan Lee, Lok Jansen, Lapin, and Luis Ruiz. Their works that used as inspiration are as follows: "San Antonio and Seguin, Texas" ( the sketch of Violorra apartments), " Old Age Movie Theaters in Seoul", "Train Sketches", "Le Select", and "Saved From Demolition".

MHRA Thumbnails

For this assignment we were divided into groups with each group being assigned to explore a different building on campus. My group was assigned the MHRA. The purpose of the assignment was for us to convey how one would navigate the building through our thumbnail drawings. These drawings were to be done in ink.

Sketchbook Assignment #4

In this sketchbook assignment we were told to draw and paint 3 vignettes of people with large scale objects. These vignettes could be either fanciful or realistic. I took an approach that was more of a mix of mythology and reality by using a reference to the myth of the golden apples (i.e. what the girl is reaching for), and including the female statue in the toga. The modern part comes from my scale figures. the girl with red hair, the boy in the green swim suit, and the man in the canoe in the back ground. The other part of this assignment was to present these three vignettes in a unified way. I did this by placing all of my scenes on or in the water.

Sketchbook Assignment #3

For this assignment we were told to do water color vignettes of three of our classmates, and the accessories they were wearing. I chose to do Jessica's ear ring, Blakeni's rings, and Justin's watch.

Sketchbook Assignment #1

For our first sketchbook assignment we were told to pick 5 objects that have importance to us, and memorialize them through drawings, and words in a 2 page spread in our sketchbook. We were told to use a black pen and 1 colored pencil. The 5 objects that I chose to memorialize are as follows: A palm that my friend Andrew gave me before he moved away to California, a faith bracelet I made on a mission trip, the scarf that my best friend gave me for Christmas, and the teddy bear "Big One" that I have had since I was 5 years old that my parents gave me. finally an eagle balancing toy that reminds me that life is a delicate balance that is made worthwhile when you can work hard and have fun too.
